With the support of Next Steps, Tanzwerk*Kassel will make use of the space provided by the municipal cultural office in the Hochbunker Agathof, as its first dedicated production and presentation venue for the independent dance scene in Kassel. Shedding light on the needs of local artists, three artistic
residencies, each hosting two projects, will take place in the brand new 80 sqm studio, including free mentoring and concluding with a public presentation. In order to keep ensuring Tanzwerk’s offers accessible to the wider dance community, the well-established programs – Profitraining and Moving On – will be running during the entire year within continuous rotation between Agathofbunker, SOZO Visions in Motion and Kulturhaus Dock 4.

Jury statement

Creating, maintaining, designing, and sharing spaces with and for each other is something special and necessary for a vibrant dance scene. Associations such as Tanzwerk*Kassel demonstrate what professional actors in dance and choreography can achieve together through continuous networked activity: moving into their own space. This space is equipped to become a place for the growing and increasingly intergenerational dance scene with residencies, professional training, and other, sometimes public, programs.

Such a self-organized infrastructure, together with local actors and partners, pursues clear ideas, treats artistic, organizational, and administrative processes as interconnected, and takes them seriously. In this way, it can be a space for many and sustainably strengthen the working methods and reach of the scene.
