Yet to Come
Eslam Elnebishy

“Yet to Come” is a choreographic exploration of grief, voice and political defeat.
Drawing on memories of the 2011 Egyptian revolution, Frankfurt-based choreographer Eslam Elnebishy explores how political loss is inscribed in the body, and how grief might be transformed into resilience. The project addresses unfulfilled hopes for change and their reverberations in today’s global rise of far-right politics. The research centres on experiments with movement, sound and voice, supported by dramaturgical mentoring and formats for public exchange.
The process culminates in a work-in-progress presentation and lays the groundwork for the premiere of a full-length piece in 2027.

Jury statement

In his research project “Yet to Come,” Eslam Elnebishy examines past and contemporary events in Egypt and beyond, exploring ways of dealing with loss, grief, and unfulfilled hopes for political change. Together with collaborators and partners, “Yet to Come” embarks on a search for shared embodied forms of experience and memory that will also have an impact on the future. Eslam Elnebishy also turns his attention to Frankfurt and Hesse as contexts shaped and enriched by migration and diasporic experiences, inviting local actors and audiences to participate in the process in various ways.
In addition to promoting in-depth engagement with pressing issues, Next Steps supports the transition to professional practice, local anchoring and networking, and an important step toward independent artistic work by funding this project.
