Beyond the Floor: House for everyone
Beyond the Floor: House for everyone
HOUSEaHOLICS
With renewed funding, HOUSEaHOLICS continues to consolidate its role as a driving force within the house dance scene in Frankfurt and across Hesse. By strengthening local and regional networks, the collective is addressing challenges such as the lack of suitable and affordable venues. Planned activities include jams in Frankfurt and two other cities in Hesse, an alcohol-free club night, and a house battle aimed at celebrating the community and raising its public profile. The project seeks to enhance visibility, support artistic development and professionalise local practitioners, while creating sustainable spaces for training and exchange and securing broader social recognition for urban dance culture. The establishment of an association (Verein) is intended to underpin the longterm continuity of the work.
Jury statement
With HOUSEaHOLICS, the jury honors a project that understands house not only as a dance style, but as a lived culture, social space, and artistic attitude. Building on the work of Each One Teach One – House Culture, a scene has emerged in Hesse that has developed a charisma that extends far beyond the region. HOUSEaHOLICS responds precisely to the real conditions of this practice: a lack of space, fragile structures, and the need for recognition and professionalization.
The jury was particularly impressed by the consistency with which the project facilitates exchange and embodies social values – in jams, battles, and club formats that intertwine dance, music, and visual arts. HOUSEaHOLICS opens up spaces for diversity, dialogue, and belonging, and makes house culture visible as an inclusive and conscious counter-model. The funding strengthens existing networks, creates new alliances, and enables the next step toward sustainable, self-determined structures. HOUSEaHOLICS exemplifies what Next Steps wants to promote: a scene in motion that knows where it comes from – and where it wants to go.
