Closer with Consent – Intimacy Choreography im Tanz
Hannah Dewor

While the profession of intimacy coordinator establishes itself more and more in the film industry as a reaction to the #metoo movement, the development of a comparable working field for dance is still in its infancy – even though touch and physical contact are intrinsic to this art form more than almost any other. The Next Steps project by Frankfurt artist Hannah Dewor is therefore doing pioneering work in Hesse to further develop and establish the professional field of Intimacy Choreography. With her own further training, the research for and implementation of introductory workshops, the founding of a (supra)regional network, the organization of the first exchange LAB for Intimacy Choreography and the development of an accessible website, trauma-sensitive and consent-based working methods are being promoted in the dance scene.

Jury statement

Although physical contact and touch are fundamental to dance, little has changed in this field since the #metoo movement and numerous debates about the abuse of power in dance education and production. How can consent-based, trauma-sensitive working methods be integrated into contemporary dance practice? Hannah Dewor, trained as an intimacy coordinator and choreographer for film, television, theater and dance, explores this question in her project “Closer with Consent”. This includes workshops, the organization of an exchange lab and the development of a (supra)regional network and a website. This is pioneering work, both in Hesse and in Germany.

The jury is convinced that Dewor’s well thought-out project will enable an urgently needed collective learning and experience process and will advance the Hessian dance scene in the field of intimacy choreography.
