DANCE NEXUS
The Dance Nexus network aims to strengthen the independent dance scene in Wiesbaden, Mainz and the surrounding area on a long-term basis and give it more visibility. A space cooperation enables local dance professionals to use rehearsal rooms free of charge. Professional dancers benefit from the regularly held “Profitraining”, which ensures them continuous practice at a high level. The monthly format Dance Nexus Atelier (DNA) offers an open stage in various spaces for regular showings as well as a frame for dialogue with the scene and audience. In addition, residencies support open artistic research and close a financial gap in the regional funding system. A centralised dance calendar will be established to bundle and increase the visibility of the independent dance scene in Wiesbaden, Mainz and the surrounding area. In addition, the aim is to jointly develop an artistic exchange format with the Hessian networks tanz*werk Kassel and ID_Tanzhaus.
Jury statement
Dance Nexus is an important initiative that develops sustainable structures for dance and strengthens the independent dance scene in Wiesbaden and the surrounding area in the long term. The jury sees great potential in the association of freelance performers, who can develop more visibility, professionalization and social relevance as an association. The holistic approach, which includes space for experimentation and exchange, presentations, studio collaborations, open-ended artistic research residencies as well as access to professional rehearsal spaces and regular professional training, was convincing. Formats in rural areas and with other Hessian dance networks also promise supra-regional networking. In order to attract new audiences to dance, the jury also welcomes the idea of an online dance calendar and other promising marketing measures.
