Each One Teach One – House Culture
HOUSEaHOLICS

House is rooted in African American and Latin American influences and has developed into house culture through house music, house dance as a club dance style, and social dance within the safe space of the queer community. In the club, identities could evolve in a familial atmosphere. In Germany, there is often a lack of structures to make this culture, which sees itself as diverse and inclusive, visible and accessible. As part of the Next Steps funding, HOUSEaHOLICS brings dancers, DJs and cultural professionals together and in exchange – through jams, dance and knowledge transfer workshops and club events. The project thus creates a sustainable structure for the house dance scene in Hesse and Germany. It strengthens networking with international players, secures safe spaces for marginalized communities and promotes house as an artistic and cultural practice.

Jury statement

With “Each One Teach One – House Culture”, the HOUSEaHOLICS collective shows how locally rooted and globally networked it is. House dance has social relevance as an empowerment strategy for people affected by racist discrimination and queer hostility. Self-organized community spaces are therefore particularly valuable.

The jury is grateful for this pioneering project. The jury is also impressed by the vision and commitment of HOUSEaHOLICS. The project “Each One Teach One – House Culture” strengthens diversity and cohesion in Frankfurt and offers a platform for artistic expression and social interaction.
