Rotations Dance Festival

Rotations Dance Festival
Spahn+Glikson

The three-day “Rotations Dance Festival”, directed by Lea Spahn and Miranda Glikson, transforms Marburg into a vibrant hub for contemporary dance. In collaboration with Theater Neben dem Turm, Waggonhalle Marburg, Philipps University and Schultheater Netzwerk Marburg-Giessen, Rotations showcases local, regional and national artists and educators. Participatory formats and workshops offer accessible entry points for a broad audience and create inclusive spaces for encounter, with a focus on community-oriented practices and collaboratively developed performances. Conceived as a pilot project, the festival’s first edition also establishes a platform designed to offer local dance professionals new perspectives and opportunities for exchange and networking.

“Rotations Dance Festival” shines a spotlight on contemporary dance in Marburg – a region previously underrepresented in Hesse’s dance landscape. Curated by Miranda Glikson and Lea Spahn, the festival’s compact three-day format, in collaboration with established Marburg theater venues, creates accessible entry points for everyone interested in movement and a broad public audience. Local and regional artists offer insights into the diversity of dance through participatory formats, workshops, and performances.

As a pilot project, the focus is on community-building and fostering synergies. “Rotations Dance Festival” exemplifies one of Next Steps’ key funding priorities: creating platforms and supporting networks that make dance accessible to a wide audience and strengthen an emerging dance scene.
